Your details, handled like a good host
This policy explains what Joysola collects when you book a table, reserve a poker seat, or send us a message — and what we never, ever do with it. Short version: we collect what we need to run the venue, and nothing more.
01 What we collect
When you book dinner, grab a poker seat or message us, we typically collect:
- Contact details — name, email, phone number from booking and contact forms.
- Booking info — date, party size, dietary needs, occasion notes.
- Poker registration — which poker night you booked, experience level, and ID verification for the 18+ poker room (we check it, we don't store a copy).
- Leaderboard data — if you play our poker tournaments, your name and season points go on the leaderboard with your consent.
- Site usage — basic analytics like which pages get visited, covered in our cookie policy.
Plain talk
If you've only ever eaten here, we basically know your name and that you like the ribeye. Poker players we know a bit better — that's what the leaderboard is for.
02 How we use it
Your details exist to make your night work — nothing exotic:
- Confirming dinner reservations and reminding you before the night.
- Holding your poker seat, managing the waitlist, and running the season poker leaderboard.
- Replying to messages — a human reads every one.
- Letting you know about poker events or menu changes you've asked to hear about.
What we don't do: sell your data, spam you, or share your poker habits with anyone. Ever.
03 Cookies & tracking
The site uses a small set of cookies — mostly to remember that you've already seen the cookie banner and to keep the booking forms working smoothly. Analytics help us learn whether people read the poker schedule page or just go straight to the menu.

No advertising trackers, no creepy cross-site following. The only thing tracking you here is the waiter noticing you finished your drink.

04 Who sees your info
Inside Joysola, only the people who need it: the host team sees dinner bookings, the poker room manager sees poker registrations and leaderboard standings, and the events coordinator sees private-hire inquiries.
Outside Joysola, almost nobody. We don't sell, rent or trade your details. The only exceptions are the usual legal ones — if NZ law genuinely requires disclosure, or to protect the safety of our guests.
Poker results are only public if you opt in to the leaderboard — plenty of players stay off the board and that's completely fine.
The bar team doesn't see your booking history; the kitchen only sees dietary notes.
Tournament poker players choose whether their name goes up.
05 How long we keep it & how it's stored
Booking details are kept for up to 24 months — long enough to remember you're a regular, short enough not to be weird about it. Poker leaderboard records live for the season plus one archive year.
Data is stored on secure, access-controlled systems. Our booking and poker registration records aren't lying around on a clipboard — though the kitchen's prep list still is, and it contains zero personal data.
When data hits its retention limit it's deleted, not archived "just in case".
06 Your rights under the Privacy Act
Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 you can ask us to:
- Show you what personal info we hold about you.
- Fix anything that's wrong or out of date.
- Delete your details — including removing your name from the poker leaderboard.
- Stop hearing from us — one email and it's done.
Ask in person at the host stand or email joysola@gmail.com — we respond within 10 working days, usually much faster.
Not happy with our answer?
You can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz). We'd honestly rather you gave us the chance to fix it first.

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top and flag it at the venue for a month — not bury it in fine print. Big changes (like how poker registration data is handled) get announced before they happen.
